Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) Projects Supported by Odisha Water and Disaster Management Department (OWDM)
In collaboration with the Odisha Water and Disaster Management Department (OWDM), IRDMS has undertaken IWMP watershed projects in Angul district focusing on soil and water conservation, land treatment, and afforestation. The watershed interventions aim to restore degraded landscapes through contour trenching, check dams, farm ponds, and plantation drives, enhancing moisture retention and groundwater recharge. Participatory irrigation management has been promoted by strengthening local institutions such as Pani Panchayats and Water User Associations (WUAs), facilitating equitable and efficient water use. These measures have contributed to improved agricultural productivity, climate resilience, and sustainable livelihood opportunities for farming communities in the district.
Odisha PVTG Empowerment and Livelihoods Improvement Programme (OPELIP)
IRDMS has implemented the Odisha PVTG Empowerment and Livelihoods Improvement Programme (OPELIP) in Angul district with focused efforts to improve the socio-economic conditions of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). The program adopts an integrated approach that combines agriculture, livestock promotion, nutrition enhancement, and community infrastructure development. Capacity building of Village Development Committees (VDCs) and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) has been a key strategy to foster community-led governance and sustainable resource management. Additionally, value addition, collective marketing initiatives, and small-scale processing units have been established to ensure better income generation and reduce drudgery, particularly for women and marginalized households.
