Targeted Intervention Projects under NACO/NHM (HIV/AIDS Prevention and Care)

IRDMS implements Targeted Intervention (TI) projects under the aegis of the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) and the National Health Mission (NHM), focusing on high-risk and vulnerable populations in districts such as Sambalpur and Jagatsinghpur (Paradip). These interventions are designed to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS and improve health outcomes among key affected populations including Female Sex Workers (FSWs), Men who have Sex with Men (MSMs), Transgender individuals (TGs), and Injecting Drug Users (IDUs).

Key Components of the Programme Include

  • HIV/AIDS Prevention and Behaviour Change Communication: Conducting targeted outreach and education programs to promote safe sexual practices, reduce risky behaviours, and increase awareness of HIV transmission modes.
  • STI Management and Treatment: Provision of regular screening, diagnosis, and treatment services for sexually transmitted infections to reduce co-infection risks.
  • Condom Promotion and Distribution: Ensuring availability and accessibility of condoms to vulnerable populations through peer educators and outreach workers.
  • Access to Health Services: Facilitating linkages with government healthcare facilities for HIV testing, counselling, antiretroviral therapy (ART), and other essential health services.
  • Community Mobilization: Building capacity of community-based organizations and peer networks to strengthen support systems, encourage treatment adherence, and reduce stigma and discrimination.

Through these comprehensive interventions, IRDMS helps in reducing new HIV infections, enhancing early diagnosis and treatment, and improving the quality of life for vulnerable populations.

Health & Nutrition Interventions under NRHM

Under the framework of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), IRDMS implements integrated health and nutrition interventions aimed at improving the wellbeing of underserved and marginalized communities, with a particular focus on maternal and child health, adolescent sexual and reproductive health (SRH), and sanitation.

Core Programmatic Focus Areas

  • Maternal Health: Promotion of antenatal and postnatal care, institutional deliveries, maternal nutrition, and early identification of high-risk pregnancies to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality.
  • Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health: Education and counselling for adolescents on puberty, menstrual hygiene, nutrition, prevention of early marriage, and reproductive rights.
  • Child Nutrition and Growth Monitoring: Regular growth monitoring and promotion activities to detect and manage malnutrition, along with the promotion of immunization, complementary feeding, and micronutrient supplementation.
  • Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH): Behavioural change communication to improve sanitation facilities, safe drinking water practices, and hygiene behaviours to reduce communicable diseases.
  • Convergence with Government Health Services: Close coordination with Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), and Anganwadi Workers to strengthen service delivery and ensure continuum of care.

These interventions collectively contribute to improved health indicators, reduced malnutrition and disease burden, enhanced community awareness, and strengthened health systems, particularly in priority districts such as Jagatsinghpur.
